Choose what is the best boiler for your house

Conventional Boilers

How the system works

How system works inside property

A convectional boiler system has two water tanks. One is used exclusively to extract the cold water for refilling it to the mains and this process is done through the large cold water storage tank. There is also a small feed and expansion tank which feeds the cold water and ensures that the central heating boiler heats the cylinder thereby enabling the cylinder to produce gallons of hot water to all the taps in the house. There is also a pump which helps to distribute the hot water through the pipes to the radiators.

The benefits

  • Flow rates are faster than combination boilers.
  • Various tap operations.
  • Provision of an airing cupboard.
  • Back up electrical hot water heating through immersion.
  • Dual Provision for heating and hot water together.
  • Solar Compatible.

Things to consider

  • Space for a large water tank required in your loft.
  • It will take time for water to heat up.
  • It provides only limited and considerable portions of hot waterbecause time is taken for water to refill and heat.

Combination Boilers

How the system works

The combi boiler heats water directly from the mains

Combination Boilers on the other hand are far more practical and time efficient as it provides oodles of hot water. It is vital to bear in mind on the other hand that the supply may be limited incase more than one tap is running at the same time. The advantage of a combination boiler is that it gives access to both hot and cold water at the same speed. Since combination boilers instantly heat water directly from the mains without running out of hot water an additional cold water storage tank is not required hence making it ideal if space is limited . Hot water circulates through the pipes and goes up to the radiators.

The benefits

  • Perfect for lack of space.
  • Hot water tank unnecessary.
  • Water consumption is saved as water gets heated up only when needed.
  • It heats up the water through the mains.

Things to consider

  • Low mains water pressure.
  • Utilization and usage of the airing cupboard serving as a dual purpose for drying clothes as well as for storage.
  • Multiple taps and showers which use hot water at the same time can have the tendency to drastically reduce the flow of water depending on the power of the boiler.
